How do I know which language level to enrol in?
Please read the studying languages guide to help choose the right language level.
It is also helpful to read the course outlines of the classes you feel may be suitable. These can be downloaded using the 'Download course information' link below the course description, a PDF file of the course outline will open. The outline includes topics covered and pre-requisites and will help you to assess its suitability.
Course outlines also include any textbooks used during the course and their relevant chapters. Looking at these is a helpful means of determining your level of knowledge and proficiency.
If you are still unsure, please contact us with a summary of your current proficiency and experience. We will forward this to a convenor or teacher who may be able to advise you.
Are the teachers native speakers?
Generally yes. However, some teachers at beginner levels may not be native speakers but will have full fluency in the language, having lived/studied in the relevant country/s for some time.
If the level I have chosen is too easy/hard can I transfer to another level once the class has started?
Yes, transfers are possible if the level is running and if there are places available. There is no transfer fee.
However, there may be a difference in course fees, which will be payable when the transfer is processed.
You must advise the Centre before your second class if you want to change levels as we would need to transfer your enrolment.
Will my language level run in the next program?
Not necessarily. It depends upon several factors: the language, the current demand for that language, the availability of teachers, etc.
Most of the beginner courses run each program.
